What are the best cities to celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Only two Tennessee cities make WalletHub's ranking of the top 100 largest places.

Bah humbug. No, that’s a phrase for a different holiday, not the Day of Love, but it might still apply for this article if you continue to read on.

WalletHub, the personal finance website, recently evaluated 100 cities of the largest U.S. cities across 25 key metrics to determine the most romantic and cost-effective cities for celebrating Valentine’s Day. Those metrics ranged from florists per capita to forecasted precipitation to the cost of a three-course meal for two.

Which city topped the rankings? Not surprising, you might have left your heart there. It was San Francisco which was ranked #1 based in part on the fact that “it has the highest prevalence of affordable restaurants, florists and gift shops rated at least 4.5 stars. That covers dinner and presents – but the city is also perfect for dates, with an extremely high number of attractions. If you want to take a romantic stroll on Valentine’s Day, you’ll benefit from the fact that San Francisco ranks at the top of the most walkable cities. And for those who like to drink, it surprisingly has one of the lowest costs for beer and wine, when adjusted for the median household income. Even if you’re just a new couple and plan to go with some basic cards and chocolate to celebrate, the Golden Gate City tops the list when it comes to card shops and chocolatiers per capita.”

The other cities in the top five are Seattle (#2), San Diego (#3), Portland, OR (#4), and Las Vegas (#5). Atlanta came in at #6.

So, why bah humbug? The highest ranked Tennessee city was Nashville at #26 followed by Memphis at #92. Neither Chattanooga nor Knoxville made the top 100 which can be found here.
