The Boyd Foundation donates $3.5 million for Hurricane Helene relief
Three counties - Carter, Cocke, and Unicoi - receive $1 million each, while Johnson receives $500,000.
The Boyd Foundation has donated $3.5 million to Tennessee counties devastated by Hurricane Helene late last month.
In a social media series of posts, Randy Boyd, President of the University of Tennessee System and Founder of Radio Systems, wrote, “After touring and seeing firsthand the devastation that Hurricane Helene brought to our friends and neighbors in Northeast Tennessee, Jenny and our family felt many of the biggest unmet needs to aid recovery were so varied and significant that the best way we could help was through targeted financial donations. Today, we are pleased to announce our commitment of $500,000 to hurricane relief efforts in Johnson County, along with $1 million each for recovery efforts in Carter, Unicoi, and Cocke Counties. While no single individual can solve every problem, we believe that by working together, we can achieve anything! I encourage others to join us in this important effort. As Tennesseans, we take care of each other.”
The Boyd Foundation consists of Boyd, his wife Jenny, Thomas and Lindsey Boyd, and Harrison Boyd.
The organization describes its impact areas as:
- Education and youth development;
- Animal welfare;
- Arts and preservation; and
- Mental health initiatives.
