Steel Warehouse expands to Jefferson County, bringing 70 new jobs, $20 million

The news also comes with a $20 million investment in innovative equipment to support strategic partners.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter announced on Wednesday that Steel Warehouse will place their next facility in Jefferson City. The company will move into the old, vacant Footwear Industries of Tennessee building.

Steel is a key component for so many manufacturers, making Tennessee the perfect central location for Steel Warehouse. Not only are they expanding in our state, but they are also renovating a classic building that will once again generate new jobs and investment in the community. I can’t wait to see how impactful this project will continue to be in the next decade,” said McWhorter.

Steel Warehouse has been in operation since 1947 and has 15 locations across the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. Steel Warehouse has more than $400 million in revenue each year, with more than 1,700 employees. Distributing over two million tons of coil, sheet, and plate annually in hot- and cold-rolled materials, Steel Warehouse caters to a diverse range of industries including aerospace, agriculture, automotive, construction, energy, and transportation.

The Jefferson City location will also bring 70 new jobs to the area, and an investment of nearly $20 million in innovative equipment, which will support their strategic partners in the construction equipment, agriculture, lawn and garden, and truck and trailer industries, in addition to helping attract additional investment in the area.

“We are looking forward to opening this location in Jefferson City, TN. To be able to come into a community with such a great workforce and incredible vocational resources is a true blessing for us. We are excited to bring high-end industrial jobs into the area while partnering with local resources like TCAT and Jefferson County HS,” said Matt Black, the Southern Region Vice President and General Manager for Steel Warehouse.

Since 2020, TNECD has supported more than 50 economic development projects in the East Tennessee region, resulting in nearly 10,000 job commitments and approximately $3 billion in capital investments.
