SSTI looks at five-year venture capital average by state, compares to 2018 data
SSTI, better known as the State Science and Technology Institute, has calculated averages for venture capital dollars and deals from 2013 to 2017 and then compared those averages to 2018 dollars and deals.
According to the analysis, no states saw an increase in both dollars and deals in 2018. That said, four – Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Washington – saw increases in the amount of dollars invested in 2018 while also matching their five-year average in number of deals made. In comparison, 12 states including Tennessee failed to match their five-year average for both dollars and deals in 2018. In addition to the Volunteer State, the others were Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
