From Birmingham, AL:

TechBirmingham is collaborating with gener8tor, a nationally ranked venture capital firm and accelerator, to align two tech-focused conferences that will be held in downtown Birmingham during the same week in June. The partnership will bring hundreds of investors, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders to the city for three days of innovation and technology programming.

  • The two-day gener8tor Healthcare Conference, presented by Prosper, is scheduled for June 26 and 27 at Workplay. The two-day event highlights healthcare innovations, the leaders making such innovations possible, and how new technologies and business models will reinvent the industry. Attendees include leading organizations, corporations, investors and startups across digital health, health equity, medtech, biotech, pharma, wellness and mental health sectors.

It offers an opportunity for founders, start-ups, and companies to share ideas, build relationships with one another, and push the boundaries of innovation.

From Durham, NC:

NCInnovation, a non-profit organization that helps unlock the innovative potential of North Carolina’s world-class public universities, is recruiting for its first executive director to manage the sandbox and operations of the group.

According to an article in Charlotte Inno, the position will be remote; however, the leader will also have in-person responsibilities across North Carolina and the nation.

The regulatory sandbox allows business owners to apply for an interim exemption from the NC Innovation Council for ideas typically blocked by state regulations. The site launched late in 2022, following a year of work on the platform after legislation establishing the regulatory sandbox was passed in October 2021.

From Orlando, FL:

The Florida Venture Forum, the Sunshine State’s largest statewide support organization for investors and entrepreneurs, has announced that 37 companies were selected to present at its “2024 Florida Early Stage Venture Conference” set for June 4 and 5 at the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando. This is a record number of start-ups, and includes university level teams. All but one of the startups are based in Florida.

In addition to the main early stage track, the conference will also feature the Statewide Collegiate Start-up Competition, with 10 colleges and universities participating this year, and the Space Florida AeroTech Summit, featuring presentations and programming relevant to aerospace and related technologies.

“By having three tracks for presenting companies, we are able to showcase those innovative aerospace technology focused companies along with a separate track for innovative early stage companies more broadly, all this with truly innovative collegiate companies. There will be something engaging for all early stage investors,” said Ben Patz, Managing Partner at DeepWork Capital and conference selection chair.

A total of $300,000 in prizes and investments is up for grabs. The Accelerating Innovation Award, with a prize of $75,000 from Space Florida, is open to companies with a focus in the aerospace and related industries. The $50,000 grpand rize, from Florida Power & Light, is open to the presenting start-ups in any sector, as are the two runners up who will receive $20,000 each from Florida Power & Light and Space Florida. Two winners in the Statewide Collegiate Start-up Competition will recieve $5,000 each from Florida Power & Light and Space Florida. In addition, the Orlando-based venture firm DeepWork Capital will make a minimum $125,000 equity investment in one of the winning companies.

From Atlanta, GA:

It’s not too early to apply to pitch at Venture Atlanta 2024. Applications are now open for the event that will occur October 8 and 9 at the Woodruff Arts Center and Atlanta Symphony Hall. Alumni of the program have raised more than $7.7 billion in capital and $17 billion in exits. The deadline to apply is August 2 here.
