Rocky Top Business Award applications are now open!
Any University of Tennessee, Knoxville alumni-owned business can apply for the awards, presented by PYA.
The Rocky Top Business Awards recognize the fastest-growing University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) alumni-owned or alumni-led businesses. Each spring, the award winners are recognized at a celebration event where each award-winning company learns their numerical ranking and receives their award. The Rocky Top Business Awards honors UTK’s vast network of business leaders and entrepreneurs, bringing together a like-minded group to share experiences and insights.
PYA, the power behind teknovation.biz is the primary sponsor behind the annual awards. The firm also plays a key role in fact-checking financials for the nominees. Marty Brown, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for PYA shared why the award presentation is so important.

To be eligible for a Rocky Top Business Award, a company must:
- Have been in business for three years or more as of December 31, 2023 (cut-off founding date is January 1, 2021).
- Have verifiable revenues above the minimum requirements of $100,000 for calendar year 2021 and $250,000 for calendar year 2023.
- Have a UT, Knoxville alum in the role of Chief Executive Officer, President, Managing Partner (or equivalent) or owner(s). To be considered an alumnus/alumna, individuals must have obtained at least 24 semester hours of credit. Alumni who are owners must collectively own at least 50 percent of the business.
- Operate in a manner consistent with the Volunteer Student Code of Conduct and in keeping with the values and image of UT, Knoxville. The UT Knoxville Alumni Office reserves the right to reject any nomination/award and rescind awards for any reason.
Applications for the 2025 Rocky Top Business Awards will remain open until December 6, 2024. People can nominate a company, or companies can nominate themselves!
