RegScale secures Phase II SBIR award from AFWERX

Following its previous selection for a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from the U.S. Air Force’s AFWERX program, RegScale has announced that the start-up has been selected for a follow on Phase II SBIR Award for up to $750,000. The additional R&D funding will support the ongoing R&D efforts as well as determination of the applications where the technology can be most beneficial to customers.

“This funding from AFWERX will advanced the platform’s automation capabilities while providing real-world use cases and value to the Air Force,” said Co-Founder Travis Howerton (pictured right). “Our first deliverables begin in August, and we will execute this work over the next 15 months in partnership with our Hanscom customer. We are honored to be selected as a Compliance Automation platform for the Air Force and look forward to servicing our military’s compliance needs in support of the Air Force’s mission.”

The start-up was spun out of C2 Labs by Howerton and Co-Founder Anil Karmel as announced in this November 2021 teknovation.biz article. Both were founders of C2 Labs. Karmel, who is based in Washington, DC, serves as Chief Executive Officer of RegScale, while Howerton serves as Chief Technology Officer, leading the R&D team in the Innovation North Building at the University of Tennessee Research Park.

RegScale was second runner-up in the 2022 edition of the PYA-sponsored “Ballard Innovation Award” that recognizes the region’s most promising new innovation companies.

As part of the latest AFWERX award, RegScale will work closely with Hanscom Air Force Base to deploy its technology within their environment and to demonstrate feasibility of several complex compliance use cases. This competitive selection of its technology provides validation of RegScale’s potential to solve compliance automation problems at the extreme ends of complexity and scale.

The award also continues the start-up’s momentum supporting national security customers in the U.S. government including the Navy, Department of Energy, and the Department of Homeland Security.
