NSF announces awards to five universities in the South
The funding came through the agency's "Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research" (EPSCoR) initiative to build research capacity.
Five universities in the South were among 21 institutions in 19 jurisdictions that shared $56 million in awards announced last week by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The funding came through the agency’s “Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research” (EPSCoR), which is a component of NSF’s ongoing effort to build research and development capacity and education in states that demonstrate a commitment to research but have not received the levels of investment seen in other parts of the country.
Three of the five received sole awards. They are:
- Auburn University for its proposal titled “Developing effective adaptation strategies to enhance the resilience of farmers under changing climate”;
- Mississippi State University for a project titled “An interdisciplinary program for research, education, and outreach on climate change and adaptive resilience in the Yazoo – Mississippi Delta”; and
- The University of Southern Mississippi for a proposal titled “Advancing Social and Environmental Equity through Plastics Research: Education, Innovation, and Inclusion (ASPIRE).”
The other institutions of higher education that were part of a consortium were Louisiana State University and the University of South Carolina.
