Next “Bridging Research & Practice” set for October 18

Focus for this discussion is on Name, Image, and Likeness.

The fall edition of the “Bridging Research & Practice” event from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s (UTK) Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACEI) will be focused on the issue gripping college athletics: Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL).

Titled “What’s the deal with NIL deals?”, the session is scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. on October 18 at the Knoxville Chamber, 17 Market Square, and ACEI is inviting the Knoxville community to register for the event.

The event will feature Mike Maddux, a small business owner, and Tess Darby, a Lady Vols basketball player, along with two UTK researchers (Joan Heminway and Mark Willoughby) to help connect and build bridges between entrepreneurship research and practice concerning NIL.

“There are still a lot of questions around NIL including the key advantages to individuals pursuing these deals, companies that provide them, and the risks involved for all parties with NIL deals,” Brennan Hullett, ACEU Marketing and Outreach Manager. “We believe small businesses, in particular, might be able to leverage NIL deals to help grow their companies. Join us at our ‘Bridging Research & Practice’ event to learn about NIL deals and what individuals and companies need to know in order to maximize their value.”
