New Knoxville business named My IT Guys focused on smaller companies

For now, it’s a one-person operation that limits its geographic focus to Knox County and those contiguous to the community.

“My wife and I always wanted to start a company,” Dean Cooper, President of My IT Guys, says. It’s a business sector he knows well, having served as a Manager or Information Technology (IT) Director for the past 27 years.

On September 3, the couple realized their dream of launching their own business. They started with a single customer, grew it to three in less than a month, and have doubled that number now in less than two months.

“Our focus is on smaller companies . . . those with five to 15 users, and scaling up to 25,” Cooper says. “We’re open to talking to any vertical.”

That said, he adds that My IT Guys’ has a sweet spot based on his longtime career with Empire Construction, a Knoxville-based general contractor that specializes in multi-family Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) affordable housing renovation.

Because of that experience, Cooper sees great synergy between his services and those who are developers, architects, contractors, subcontractors, engineering firms, and those who build or manage apartments. As an expert in both Windows and Mac environments, Cooper is well-positioned to support clients with mixed technology systems, ensuring seamless integration and management across platforms.

Key services offered by My IT Guys include:

  • Managed IT services for base management of IT infrastructure to ensure smooth operations;
  • Advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect businesses from emerging threats;
  • Cloud services to enhance collaboration and storage capabilities;
  • Comprehensive network setup and maintenance; and
  • Prompt technical support to resolve issues efficiently and prevent downtime.

For now, it’s a one-person operation, so Cooper is limiting his geographic focus to Knox County and those contiguous to the community. He hopes to add a Technician within four to six months and grow the business to other area cities.

“The model should be pretty scalable,” he says, requiring two people for each city to which he expands. One would be an IT person, the other someone focused on business development.

“I don’t want to over promise and under deliver,” Cooper says. As such, My IT Guys focuses on providing support during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), preferring not to take on clients requiring after-hours or on-call support., at least for now.

He has gotten advice and ultimately support for back office matters from Paul Sponcia, Chief Executive Officer of The IT Company in Knoxville. “I’m just an investor and helping Dean any way I can,” Sponcia says.
