Knoxville ranks in top 10 nationally for places to start a career

That's according to a new report from WalletHub that ranked 180 cities.

To help recent college graduates find the best cradles for their budding careers, WalletHub, the personal financial website, compared the relative market strength and overall livability of more than 180 U.S. cities.

Guess who cracked the top 10? It was Knoxville at #10 nationally, the highest rated city in the Volunteer State. Chattanooga came in at #35, Nashville was #57, and Memphis was ranked at #139.

In terms of Knoxville’s ranking, WalletHub found that the city placed:

  • #53 in housing affordability;
  • #25 in average monthly starting salary adjusted for cost of living;
  • #6 in terms of entry-level jobs per 100,000 working-age population;
  • #24 in annual job growth rate adjusted for population growth; and
  • #39 in its unemployment rate.

Leading the listing were Atlanta (#1), Orlando (#2), Salt Lake City (#3), Tampa (#4), Pittsburgh (#5), Portland, ME (#6), Charleston (#7), Austin (#8), and Miami (#9). We also noticed that four of the top 41 cities – Atlanta, Charlotte, Knoxville, and Tampa – are locations for offices of PYA, the power behind teknovation.biz.
