Kauffman Foundation releases annual “Index of Entrepreneurial Activity”
The Kauffman Foundation has just published its nationwide report titled “Index of Entrepreneurial Activity,” and the data show a slight decline in entrepreneurial activity in 2013 compared to 2012.
The rate of new starts declined slightly from 0.30 percent of American adults per month starting businesses in 2012 to 0.28 percent in 2013.
Tennessee is neither in the top five nor the bottom five. Our state’s Entrepreneurial Index was .30 percent, reflecting 300 entrepreneurs per 100,000 citizens. That’s just above the average. The top state was Montana at .61 percent, while Iowa was at the bottom of the list at .11 percent.
