HudsonAlpha Institute names new Vice President for Educational Outreach
The HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville, AL has named a new Vice President for Educational Outreach to succeed Neil Lamb who currently holds the position but will become the organization’s President on Friday.
HudsonAlpha’s Educational Outreach team works to foster a genetics-literate society and train Alabama’s future biotechnology workforce. In her new role, East will help lead the team to develop and implement innovative teacher training, student experiences, public enrichment, classroom kits and digital resources that re-shape how science education is delivered.
East was formerly the Director of Clinical Education at HudsonAlpha as well as the Director of HudsonAlpha’s Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine, where she supported multiple mission areas to expand the application of genomics through research, education and patient care. She came to HudsonAlpha in 2008.
HudsonAlpha is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the human condition around the globe through discovery, education, and economic development in the genomic sciences. The organization’s mission is to develop and apply scientific advances to health, agriculture, education and commercialization. The campus includes nearly 50 biotech companies and consists of 152 acres located within Cummings Research Park, the second-largest research park in the nation.
