Crunchbase News posted several articles that contained predictions for investments during 2025. One of them (link here) was about five trends in tech and start-ups. It suggested that:

1. “There is a lot of optimism that the change of administration in the federal government will jump-start a slow M&A environment that many believe to be over-regulated,” the team at Crunchbase suggests.
2. “After another slow year in 2024 for new tech listings, there is an expectation that the IPO (Initial Public Offering) markets will pick up in 2025,” the team believes.
3. “AI (artificial intelligence) funding continues its torrid pace,” following more than half of November’s $28 billion in global venture funding going to companies in the AI sector. The Crunchbase team notes that “AI companies in everything from robotics to marketing to healthcare raking in funding.”
4. “For 2025, we predict that the job market will remain challenging in scores of once-hot areas for tech hiring,” the team writes. “Mature start-ups and public companies, in particular, will be vigilant about ballooning costs, and avoid the kinds of moonshot efforts many once pursued.”
5. The final prediction relates to space and defense tech. “For 2025, we predict that venture investment in defense tech will continue to grow, buoyed by government spending and friendlier relations between Silicon Valley and DC.”

As has been the case for a decade or so, look for the annual “Investor Outlook Series” to begin publishing in mid- to late January as six seasoned investors offer their insights on the Tennessee market.
