CPRWrap semifinalist in national competition

It is one of 250 companies across five categories that could win one million dollars in the "Black Ambition Prize Competition."

CPRWrap Inc. has been selected as a semifinalist for Pharrell Williams’ “Black Ambition Prize Competition,” one of 250 named recently.

Founded by Felicia Jackson, a resident of Chattanooga, we first spotlighted her entrepreneurial journey in this January 2017 teknovation.biz article. In that post, she described an experience 14 years earlier when her then two-year old son was choking in the back seat of the family car, and she forgot everything Jackson had learned as a person certified in CPR. Fortunately, her husband swung into action, and the son survived, but it was a different experience in 2008 when a niece attempted suicide, only to be successfully revived by paramedics. Unfortunately, the relative died the next day.

Two years later, Jackson told us she recalls a dream in which she vividly saw what became The CPR LifeWrap. “I got up out of bed and immediately sketched the idea,” she says. Simply stated, The CPR LifeWrap is a disposable, CPR assistive device with instructions that even include where to place your hands. For people who are not trained in CPR or even those like Jackson who are but forget the process in an emotionally-charged situation, it literally can mean the difference between life and death for someone.

She’s been on the journey for at least a decade with a lot of entrepreneurial grit and determination, and we have covered many of the developments since that initial early 2017 article as Jackson has worked to advance the company (click here to read the series).

The “Black Ambition Prize Competition” is designed to bridge the racial opportunity and wealth gap by fostering environments where innovation can flourish. Now in its fourth year, the event is dedicated to fostering the success of Black, Hispanic, and Historically Black College and University (HBCU) entrepreneurs. It offers a three-month cohort-based mentorship program followed by the competition where one winner will walk away with the $1,000,000 prize. To date, Black Ambition has awarded nearly $10 million to more than 100 Black and Hispanic founders and has supported an additional 750 entrepreneurs with mentorship to strengthen their ventures.

CPRWrap is a semifinalist in the healthcare category, one of five such groupings.

“This incredible opportunity is a testament to our team’s hard work and the impact of our life-saving product,” Jackson wrote in a social media post. “This recognition inspires us to keep pushing boundaries and making a difference. Thank you for believing in us and supporting our mission. The journey continues!”
