Applications now open for “Liftoff Pitch Competition”

Up to $200,000 available in first-of-its-kind competition for start-ups either located in or willing to relocate to Blount County.

The first phase of the Sky City Entrepreneur Center‘s “Liftoff Pitch Competition” has taken flight. It’s the process of applying to be considered for a spot in the finale.

As noted in our recent teknovation.biz article from August 28, five start-ups will have a chance to compete for up to $200,000 in investment in the inaugural event that will be held November 8 at the Clayton Center for the Arts on the Maryville College campus. Start-ups that apply must either be located in Blount County or willing to relocate there.

Applications are being accepted through October 15 at this link. The five selected to pitch at the big event will be announced a week later.

The “Liftoff Pitch Competition” is one more tool among a number of initiatives that the community is using to attract and retain the all-important 25 to 54-year-old age group that includes those wanting to start and grow businesses. Bringing housing to downtown Maryville and the types of retail businesses that will attract that demographic is another component of the multi-faceted strategy.
