Appalachian Highlands in national spotlight with international awards show originating from Greeneville
The international awards show for what are termed “film trailers” or “promotional clips” in the industry has announced that it will stream the 2021 edition of the program from the Niswonger Performing Arts Center (NPAC) in Greeneville with the Sync Space Entrepreneur Center as one of its key partners.
The 21st annual “Golden Trailer Awards” (GTA) show, set for July 22, will honor content from studios, independent films, and foreign films that was created between April 2019 and April 2021. Awards categories include “Trailer for a Feature Film,” “TV Spots for a Feature Film,” “Trailer/Teaser/TV Spot for a TV/Streaming Series,” “Home Entertainment Trailer,” “Poster,” “Radio Spot,” “Digital & Innovative Advertising,” and “Title Sequence.”
It’s clearly a big win for the Appalachian Highlands region, but readers are not doubt wondering how a show that normally is broadcast from Los Angeles ended-up in Greeneville.
“The show must go on,” said Evelyn Brady-Watters who co-founded the GTA with Monica Brady, her sister, in 1999. “However, with Los Angeles still under COVID restrictions, we set our sights on NPAC, a state of the art theatre in Greeneville, TN, a region with a rich cultural heritage, bountiful spirits and a burgeoning new tech sector,”
For Sync Space President Heath Guinn, it’s a huge visibility and marketing win.
“We are very excited to have the ‘Golden Trailer Awards’ hosted in the Appalachian Highlands this year,” he said. “Northeast Tennessee’s prowess in the entertainment industry is one of our best kept secrets, and we’re seeing an incredible surge in our entertainment, production and digital media entrepreneurs and workforce.”
The Brady sisters founded the GTAs to recognize the incredibly talented professionals who created the trailers and film marketing; the unsung heroes of the entertainment industry, whose great works fuel the movie and streaming business yet largely remain anonymous.
“This year, we are also dedicating GTA21 as a tribute to all the unsung heroes in healthcare, food service, transportation, emergency services, and more who went to work (while we stayed home streaming) and kept us all going,” Brady-Watters added. “We offer our sincerest gratitude and a night to enjoy a fun night of entertainment.”
The jury that selects the winners consists of top-level directors, producers, actors, writers, executives and advertising creatives. Previous judges have included Ben Stiller, Kevin Feige, David Geffen, Glenn Close, Pedro Almódovar, Atom Egoyan, Kathleen Kennedy, Quentin Tarantino, Guy Ritchie, Andy Samberg, Eric Fellner, Dana Brunetti, Benicio del Toro, Kenneth Branagh, and Paula Wagner.
In addition to Sync Space, the 2021 show is sponsored by Gas Pump TV, TSG Innovation, ETSU Research Corporation, Spy Manor Productions, and VUniverse. You can find a full list of the nominees here.
