Tennessee Tech awarded nearly $5 million for EV battery recycling initiative
The school was one of eight sharing $44.8 million in funding.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded the Cookeville-based school nearly $5 million to design, develop, demonstrate, and validate innovative compact mobile preprocessing hubs that can be transported and deployed at local collection points to safely dismantle and shred end of life electric vehicle batteries.
It was one of eight projects that were awarded a combined $44.8 million in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for projects that will improve the economics of recycling electric drive vehicle batteries and recycling electric drive vehicle battery components. The projects are overseen by the DOE Vehicle Technologies Office.
