Moduly empowers consumers to manage their own energy
The start-up from Montreal is one of five in the second cohort of the "Sustainable Mobility Accelerator" in Chattanooga.
A start-up that is a participant in the second cohort of the “Sustainable Mobility Accelerator” in Chattanooga was founded in 2020 in Montreal, Canada by a serial entrepreneur named Jonathan Lamer.
Hosted by The Company Lab (CO.LAB) and powered by gener8tor, the 12-week program welcomed five start-ups for the second cohort, at least one of them not new to the accelerator world. Moduly participated in the 2021 “Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator” held in Birmingham.
“We were mostly on paper during Techstars,” Lamer said. “With the support of Techstars and Alabama Power, the company has gained a better understanding of the broader market challenges.”
So, what exactly is the start-up focused on?
Moduly empowers consumers to manage their own energy, reducing peak utility demand, lowering CO2 emissions, and relieving strain on local transformers, ensuring a smoother transition to renewable energy.
A key component is residential battery storage systems have emerged as a game-changer in the world of home energy. By storing excess energy generated from solar panels or the grid during off-peak hours, these systems allow homeowners to tap into a reliable source of power whenever they need it.
The company offers an innovative Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) platform called Moduly Hubz, for residential and commercial users. The system centralizes energy consumption, production, and storage into one ecosystem by integrating smart thermostats, electric vehicle chargers, solar panels, and a unique storage solution – Moduly Nødz.
For utilities, scaled deployment of Moduly Nødz represents a virtual power plant to balance the grid in a cleaner, reliable, and cost-effective manner. Moduly reduces peak energy consumption, CO2 emissions while increasing energy security with an innovative plug-and-play home battery storage solution.
Why did Moduly apply for CO.LAB’s “Sustainable Mobility Accelerator” powered by gener8tor? Lamer says there are several reasons.
- One is finding end users and a sales channel partner to allow the company to expand beyond its online sales.
- Another is Moduly’s focus on customers in the Southeast region which is a high priority region.
- Another is determining how the start-up can be more attractive and visible to is target market – residential and commercial users.
Lamer self-funded the company but is now focused on raising a new funding round to scale the business.
