Lime rolls into Knoxville: First e-scooter fleet hits downtown streets

The city hopes to become a model for how micromobility can support a greener, more connected urban environment.

Knoxville residents and visitors now have a new way to navigate the city. On Monday, October 21, Lime, a global leader in micromobility, launched a fleet of electric scooters and bikes downtown as part of a partnership with the City of Knoxville. The fleet includes more than 100 of Lime’s fourth-generation e-scooters and two dozen e-bikes, offering an eco-friendly, affordable transportation option.

The initiative is part of Knoxville’s effort to promote sustainable mobility and reduce traffic congestion. Lime’s devices will be strategically placed to ensure that streets remain uncluttered while providing convenient access to commuters. Riders can access the scooters and bikes through both the Lime and Uber apps.

“Lime is thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to provide Knoxville residents and visitors with a new, fun way to get around that is also safe, affordable, and sustainable. We’ve worked closely with the city to ensure a smooth rollout, and we’ll continue monitoring to improve the quality of life for all residents,” said Zach Williams, Lime’s Senior Director of Government Relations.

Lime’s rollout into Knoxville marks the company’s latest expansion in Tennessee, where it has been active since 2018. In Nashville, Lime’s vehicles have replaced thousands of car trips, saved fuel, and helped reduce carbon emissions. The company hopes to replicate this success in Knoxville.

City officials are optimistic that Lime’s fleet will encourage more people to choose micromobility over driving, contributing to the city’s environmental goals and easing urban transportation challenges.

Lime has committed to promoting safe riding habits and proper parking through ongoing education and communication with users. The program emphasizes responsible riding to ensure that the introduction of e-scooters and e-bikes benefits all residents, not just those who use the devices.

As Lime’s presence grows in Knoxville, the city hopes to become a model for how micromobility can support a greener, more connected urban environment.
