Momentum Entrepreneurship Hub latest result of Indiana’s $500 million READI program

The facility is located in the South Bend-Elkhart region of Indiana.

Officials broke ground recently on another Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) project designed to spark creativity and collaboration among entrepreneurs in the South Bend-Elkhart region of Indiana.

Born out of Momentum Development Group (MDG), the Momentum Entrepreneurship Hub received a $1.1 million grant from the South Bend-Elkhart Regional Partnership as part of the region’s initial $50 million READI 1.0 allocation. The total estimated cost of the project is $6.3 million.

The READI initiative is described as a bold, transformational initiative that will dedicate $500 million in state appropriations to promote strategic investments that will make Indiana a magnet for talent and economic growth.

So say what might be a gross understatement, that’s a significant investment by a state in its innovation future!

Through the READI initiative, the state will encourage neighboring counties, cities, and towns to partner to create a shared vision for their future, mapping out the programs, initiatives, and projects that are critical for them to retain talent today and attract the workforce of tomorrow.

Curated to model similar spaces in Austin, Bloomington, and Chicago, Kris Priemer, one of the members of MDG, started nursing the idea for the hub about three years ago and has big dreams for the possibility and potential that the hub will birth and cultivate. The renovated building was erected in 1954 and formerly served as home to the Salvation Army before its move in 2015. After purchasing a couple of buildings in the area, Priemer noticed the defunct building and envisioned a space where he and his fellow founders could come together, but he couldn’t do it alone. Several others came together to create a diamond in the rough.
