Howmet Aerospace Inc. to invest $27.9 million in Morristown expansion

The expansion of the Morristown location will add 50 new jobs to the region.

On Monday, officials with Howmet Aerospace Inc. announced a $27.9 million expansion of its Morristown location.

The company is a leading global provider of advanced engineering solutions for the aerospace and transportation industries, creating engine and turbine components, fastening systems, forged wheels, and more. The company is also a long-time Tennessee brand, employing more than 900 people in Hamblen County.

“Our partners in Morristown and the broader East Tennessee community have played an integral role in the success of Howmet Aerospace’s Morristown operations,” said Merrick Murphy, the president of engine products. “We’re so very proud of these longstanding relationships that have enabled us to grow and prosper over the past several decades. Howmet Aerospace is grateful for the support of our state, local, and regional partners who have been consistent and longstanding advocates for each investment we’ve made in this community.”

Howmet Aerospace Inc. is headquartered in Pittsburgh and has locations in 15 states and 13 different countries.

The news news came on the back of Governor Bill Lee’s strategic economic development trip to the United Kingdom, to strengthen relationships with European businesses and increase investment from trusted global companies in Tennessee. Furthermore, Lee and Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter attended the Farnborough International Airshow and met with current and prospective businesses to welcome new investment to Tennessee including AMI Metals and Smith & Nephew, which have existing operations in the state.

It was at the airshow when Howmet Aerospace Inc. announced the expansion.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) alongside Lee, and McWhorter shared the exciting news just minutes later!

“East Tennessee has a rich background in the aerospace and defense industry, making Morristown the ideal location to support another expansion for Howmet Aerospace. This company employs 900 people regionally, and it’s not lost on us that these new jobs and this investment could have gone to any one of the company’s global locations. I’m grateful to Howmet Aerospace leadership for recognizing our outstanding business climate, and I wish them the best of luck moving forward,” McWhorter said.

Additionally, the reaction from local leadership is overwhelmingly positive. In a joint statement from Morristown Mayor Gary Chesney, Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain, and Industrial Development Board of the City of Morristown Chairman R. Jack Fishman, they said “Here we grow again! This is the latest in the long line of industrial growth success stories in Morristown.”

Since 2020, TNECD has supported more than 50 economic development projects in East Tennessee, resulting in nearly 10,000 job commitments and more than $3.1 billion in capital investments.
