Brickyard sees first exit, and it is a big one

Nvidia, second-largest company in the world behind Apple, acquired Brev.dev which joined the unique incubator three years ago.

If the first exit from Chattanooga’s Brickyard is any indication, the model is clearly working.

Late last week, Brev.dev became the first exit for the incubator, and it was a big one. Nvidia, the hottest and second-largest company in the world behind Apple, acquired the start-up for undisclosed terms.

Ted Alling, Managing Partner at Brickyard, posted on social media that the organization has seen its first exit. “So crazy Brickyard(‘s) 1st exit is to Nvidia! Insanely proud of Nader Khalil, Alec Fong, and the entire team at Brev.dev. They set the pace in the early days of Brickyard. It’s neat to see a fund based in Chattanooga, TN help sell a business to the hottest company on the planet, and we are just getting starting!”

According to the start-up’s LinkedIn profile, “Brev’s goal is to build the easiest way for AI/ML (artificial intelligence/machine learning) developers to use a GPU. Teaming up with NVIDIA means being able to deliver on that mission by pairing the most powerful hardware with the industry leading software.”

Cam Doody, the Knoxville native who went on to co-found Bellhop, is Co-Founder and General Partner at Brickyard. He provided additional context for how Brev.dev came to the city.

“Three years ago, we flew Nader Khalil and Alec Fong into Chattanooga for a final meeting to pitch Brev.dev. The yard was still under construction, and we were camped out in some temp space in the Bellhop offices selling these guys on how we were going to become the best performing pre-seed/seed firm in venture by staying completely under the radar and making our teams temporarily move to an obscure location. Somehow, they believed us, let us write their first check that day and have become a giant part of the Brickyard community (we’ve since invested twice more).”

Brev.dev joined Brickyard in August 2021. A year later, we spotlighted the unique model that Brickyard employs in this August 2022 teknovation.biz article.
