As you no doubt know, the holiday commemorates the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. Now, nearly three and one-half centuries later, it is a freedom that we must constantly remember was not achieved easily and should not be taken lightly.
