International paint manufacturer brings new facility, 130 jobs to Loudon

PPG chose Tennessee for their new mega US facility, which will manufacture paint products.

Doubling down on efforts to bring more manufacturing companies to East Tennessee, Governor Bill Lee, alongside Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter announced that PPG will establish its newest paint and coatings manufacturing facility in Loudon. It will be the company’s first new U.S. manufacturing plant in 15 years.

Upon completion, the Tennessee operations will be more than 250,000 square feet in size with dedicated space for warehousing as well as paint and coatings production. It will also bring openings for 130 new manufacturing jobs.

The company is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It develops, manufactures, and distributes its paints, coatings, and specialty materials worldwide. Today, PPG operates across more than 70 countries and reported net sales of more than $18 billion in 2023.

“PPG shares in our commitment to innovation, and we are proud to have this household name in Tennessee. Our skilled workforce is ready to support the Loudon operations, and we look forward to seeing the economic prosperity these jobs and this $225 million investment will bring to Loudon County,” McWhorter said.

PPG officials are also excited about being in Tennessee due to the proximity to automobile manufacturers.

“As the automotive industry continues to transform, we’re excited to expand our manufacturing capabilities to meet the evolving needs of our automotive customers. The strategic location of PPG’s new facility in Tennessee also creates a more efficient and effective supply chain with proximity to many automotive manufacturing facilities, which will further enhance the service experience for our customers,” said Alisha Bellezza, the Senior Vice President of  Automotive Coatings for PPG.

Once fully operational, the facility will employ approximately 130 full-time employees and produce more than 11 million gallons of paint and coatings annually. Construction of the facility will begin in August 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2026.

Since 2020, TNECD has supported more than 50 economic development projects in the East Tennessee region, resulting in approximately 9,700 job commitments and $2.9 billion in capital investment.
