Two Tennessee cities place in top 20 metro areas for technology
One will not surprise you, but the second might!
Two Tennessee cities, including one that might surprise our readers, ranked in the top 20 metropolitan areas for technology. That’s according to this recent report from CommercialCafe, a commercial real estate blog.
Nashville made the list at #20, but what might surprise you is that Johnson City placed higher, coming in at #17. The rankings were based on nine different metrics. They included indicators such as the concentration of tech establishments at the metro level, the percentage of tech jobs, the median income of tech workers and a composite life-quality index.
What caused Johnson City’s high ranking? CommercialCafe noted that the city experienced the highest surge in median tech earnings with salaries increasing from $30,000 to $90,000 during a five-year period.
Other nearby cities placing high on the list were Huntsville (#3), Raleigh (#4), Atlanta (#7), Durham (#8), and Charlotte (#12).
