Serious money invested in five start-ups
Each company in the New York's "43North Pitch Competition" received $1 million to relocate to Buffalo, NY.
Talk about some serious cash.
Five start-ups from around the country have walked away with $1 million each during the ninth edition of New York’s “43North Pitch Competition.” The 15 participants came from across the country and as far away as London.
By accepting the $1 million, the winners will relocate their companies to Buffalo, NY and work out of the 43North incubator at Seneca One, bringing new jobs and dynamic ideas to Buffalo’s growing innovation ecosystem.
In addition to the capital investment, each company receives mentoring services, access to other expertise, office space, and interaction with an extensive network of investors. Over the past nine years, 43North has invested in a diverse, industry portfolio of 64 companies, nearly 60 percent of which have a continued presence in Buffalo, 46 percent of which have founders of color and 26 percent having female founders. Earlier this year, 43North reported that its portfolio companies had collectively created more than 1,100 jobs in Western New York.
Two of the winners hail from California, another two from Massachusetts, and the fifth had called Florida home. You can learn more about the winners at this link.
