David Cummings writes about the importance of celebrating failure
The veteran entrepreneur and columnist explains that more attempts equate to more entrepreneurs willing to take risks and endeavor to build something from nothing.
It’s been a month or more since we last published a column by David Cummings, Founder of Atlanta Tech Village and also Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Atlanta Ventures.
This one, titled “Embrace Start-up Failures,” was just too good to not post. It is a message that needs to be emphasized constantly, particularly in risk-averse communities. It resulted from talking with two different entrepreneurs, both of whom raised millions of dollars and signed a number of customers. Yet, they failed.
“The call for celebrating these failures does not stem from a desire for more failures; rather, it is rooted in developing a start-up community with more attempts,” Cummings writes. “More attempts equate to more entrepreneurs willing to take risks and endeavor to build something from nothing.”
He concludes with this key reminder: “While failure is not the objective, we celebrate the courage to take risks. Failure is an inherent part of the entrepreneurial journey. By acknowledging and learning from it, we set the stage for the next round of entrepreneurs to enter the arena.”
