News & Notes | Registration opens for GOVCON

Session #2 of the "Let Her Invest Workshop Series" is set for next week, and office space will soon be available at the Cumberland Business Incubator in Crossville.

From Throughout the Region:

Have you checked out our events tab on the website? It’s full of upcoming events across the eastern one-half of Tennessee. And, if you would like to add an item to the calendar that is focused on entrepreneurs, send it to us at teknovation@pyapc.com.

From Knoxville:

Session #2 of the second edition of the “Let Her Invest Workshop Series” from the Let Her Speak nonprofit is scheduled for Thursday, July 20, starting at 5:30 p.m. in the market Room of the Knoxville Chamber. Titled “Investing for Your Life Goals,” the session will feature a panel comprised of Erin Hall, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones; and Mary Martin, Vice President and Client Services Advisor at Pinnacle Financial Partners. From Knoxville/Oak Ridge:

Cymbeline (Bem) Culiat, Chief Science Officer and Co-Founder at Nell One Therapeutics Inc., was recently issued her 27th patent. It was for new compositions incorporating NellOne’s NV1 therapeutic into existing cutting edge-biomaterials for healing severely damaged tissues. “It opens doors for innovative partnerships to potentially accelerate the long journey to patients,” she said in a social media post, adding, “Notice of a granted patent still moves me very deeply. It represents years of work and reminds me of how privileged I am to be a scientist and invent out of what God has enabled me to understand and work with in this amazing world.”

From Chattanooga and now Nashville:

Felicia Jackson, who founded CPRWrap in Chattanooga before relocating to Nashville in early 2022, won second place and $50,000 in the recent “New Voices $150,000 POWER PITCH Competition” during the recent ESSENCE Festival of Culture in New Orleans. The competition is for Black women-owned companies.  As previously reported multiple times in teknovation.biz, Jackson, who was certified to provide CPR, froze when her two-year old son was choking in the backseat of the family car. That experience and another one led her to develop the CPRWrap product.

From Crossville:

The Cumberland Business Incubator will have office space available soon. It is located on the Crossville campus of Roane State Community College. Interested individuals can call 931/456-4910 to inquire or schedule an appointment to see the space.

From Nashville but with Statewide Interest:

Registration is now open for the “2023 Governor’s Conference,” better known as GOVCON and hosted by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. This year’s event will take place September 18 and 19 at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

GOVCON kicks off with the Commissioner’s Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on the first day. It will be followed by two afternoon general sessions and an early evening reception. Two blocks of programming are planned for the morning of the second day before the annual Governor’s luncheon wraps up the event. No doubt many of the attendees with head to Nashville for Launch Tennessee‘s “3686 Entrepreneurship Festival” scheduled for the better part of the next two days.

Click here to register for GOVCON and here to register for “3686.” Also, for those in the Knoxville region, the 10th annual “Startup Day” is scheduled for September 12. It’s part of the “Innov865 Week” that runs September 8-15.
