Two Knoxville businesses among “best of best” for 2023

Carbon Rivers and Cirrus Aircraft named finalists for "Edison Best New Product Awards."

Two companies with ties to Knoxville are among more than 150 who have been named as finalists for the 2023 “Edison Best New Product AwardsTM.”

  • Carbon Rivers was selected in the broad sustainability category for its process that takes wind blades, auto scrap, marine vessels, and building material and recovers the glass fiber and other high-value materials for an ESG circular economy. The recycled glass fiber is made into composite intermediates to produce next-generation wind blades, cars, and boats among other items. Carbon Rivers expects to have multiple global facilities for regional circular economies.
  • Cirrus Aircraft, which operates a major delivery center at the Knoxville Airport, was selected in the air mobility subcategory for its Vision Jet that features the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) and Safe Return Autoland by Garmin. CAPS is a first-of-its-kind whole airframe parachute system and Safe Return Autoland transforms the aircraft into an autonomous vehicle to safely land the aircraft in the event of an emergency. These safety systems are designed to save lives.

The finalists were selected by a peer-related voting body comprised of top executives, academics, and innovation leaders from across the globe. Those winning gold, silver or bronze medals will be announced at a gala on April 20 in Fort Myers, FL.
