Cleaning a college student’s apartment might be easier
Two first-year students at UT at Chattanooga exploring app to connect cleaners and those needing the service.
Two first-year students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) are in the early stages of exploring the feasibility of a new venture focused on college students and apartment cleaning.
As described in this news release, Brooke McFarlin and Alayna Grover presented their idea for the College Cleaners app last November during the “Hatch It! Mocs Big Business Idea Pitch Competition,” sponsored by the UTC Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The idea is to connect college students who’d like help with household cleaning with students who’d like some extra cash.
The College Cleaners idea didn’t win first prize, but the judges’ reaction to it was a confidence boost and convinced the would-be student entrepreneurs that their app could have commercial legs. Like entrepreneurs are encouraged to do, the two students are doing their customer discovery process by conducting an online survey to determine whether College Cleaners has a potential market and, if so, what features the market wants.
