WalletHub ranks best states to have a baby
WalletHub, the personal finance website, compared the 50 states and District of Columbia in terms of the best place to have a baby. While the Volunteer State’s ranking is nothing to shout about, it ranks higher at #40 than more than half of the states that have universities in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Tennessee’s highest score came in the category of baby-friendliness where it was ranked #19. On the other criteria, the state was ranked as #40 (cost), #40 (healthcare), and #36 (family-friendliness). Massachusetts topped the national listing even though its cost score placed it at #34. That was offset by ranking #2 in healthcare, #5 in baby-friendliness, and #1 in family-friendliness.
It is also worth noting that five of the top seven were in the Northeast.
Tennessee was ranked above neighboring North Carolina (#31) and bested these SEC states: Florida (#42), Arkansas (#46), Georgia (#47), Louisiana (#48), South Carolina (#49), Mississippi (#50), and Alabama (#51).
The rankings and the very detailed methodology that was used by WalletHub can be found here.
