Truist opens 100,000 square foot Innovation and Technology Center in Charlotte

Charlotte Inno reports that Truist Financial Corporation recently unveiled its new Innovation and Technology Center (ITC) in the city.

According to the article (subscription required), the two-story, 100,000 square foot space in the Truist Center is designed to weave technology and innovation into the way the bank does business. The facility includes: (1) journey rooms where client engagement is mapped out on whiteboards for multiple lines of business; (2) a maker space for engineering new products; (3) rooms equipped for a hybrid work model; (4) a lab with augmented and virtual reality capabilities; and (5) four “treehouses” which are suspended rooms overlooking the main floor that showcase prototypes and technologies.

In conjunction with the facility’s opening, Verizon Business announced that it will serve as a founding partner for the ITC’s “Innovators-in-Residence” program, a partnership where visionaries from tech giants and start-ups collaborate on and explore new and emerging technologies to help address financial and community challenges. Other founding partners include Amazon Web Services and Unqork.

Truist was the new name adopted after the merger of BB&T and SunTrust.

And, in a separate but related announcement, CommunityWorks, a statewide nonprofit lending institution and community development financial institution in South Carolina, has received a $300,000 grant from Truist Foundation. The funds will be used to support CommunityWorks’ small business lending and Women’s Business Center programs.
