Crunchbase News ranks universities with most funded founders
Crunchbase News has again compiled a list of the top universities in terms of producing the most funded founders, and the top three are pretty much as they have been. In its latest iteration, the publication analyzed how many founders of top schools raised $500,000 or more since the beginning of 2021. Crunchbase News characterized these as seed or early stage funding.
- Stanford topped the list with 338-funded founders during the period, nearly 40 percent ahead of #2 ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
- In addition to MIT with 246-funded founders during the period, only two other universities topped the 100. They were Harvard (217) and University of California (UC) – Berkeley (208).
- Coming in fifth at 94-funded founders was Columbia followed by Cornell (92).
A soon-to-be Southeastern Conference school has make significant strides. does appear to be climbing the ranks among funded founders. The University of Texas at Austin was tied with three other prominent universities – Yale, Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon – on the overall list, making it the second-highest ranked public university after UC Berkeley.
From the Southeast region, Georgia Institute of Technology, tied for #18 with Brown University, was the highest ranked. Both recorded 48-funded founders.
