The Knoxville Entrepreneur Center’s (KEC) “The Maker City” initiative will be part of the festivities in today’s opening celebration for the 40th Anniversary of the 1982 World’s Fair. Members of the Mayor’s Maker Council will also be in attendance.
Maranda Vandergriff, Creative Director of “The Maker City,” said KEC was proud to join the celebration.
“From the beginning the planning committee felt it was crucial to include makers in this historic event, inviting our Director of Maker Initiatives, Courtney Hendricks, to sit on the Steering Committee,” she said. “The 1982 World’s Fair was a celebration of culture and innovation, and today’s makers in Knoxville continue that tradition of leading our community forward with their creativity.”
She added “The Maker City,” along with local makers, will have booths at the festival to showcase their work. Members of the Mayor’s Maker Council will have demonstrations of their work throughout the day.
The schedule includes:
- 10 a.m.-12 p.m. — Photobooth with Holly Rainey, and Summit Chair Jasmine Newton of Javon Renee Portraits
- 12-2 p.m. — Woodworking with Alex Jaynes of Jaynes Woodworks and Able Trade
