VW expands research collaboration with ORNL, UTK
The latest issue of E-News from the Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council spotlights Volkswagen Group of America’s Innovation Hub Knoxville with a reposting of an article from Automotive World.
Launched in early 2020 right before the pandemic, the small VW research group at the University of Tennessee (UT) Research Park is part of a larger ecosystem that includes innovation centers in Belmont, CA; Wolfsburg, Germany; and Beijing, China, along with hubs in Barcelona, Spain; Tel Aviv, Israel; and Tokyo, Japan.
The Knoxville hub is focused on applied materials science and has expanded its research collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and UT, Knoxville (UT) as its seeks breakthroughs in material science and recycling concepts to support electric mobility and sustainable transportation. The first project involves testing ORNL’s new high-power wireless EV charging concepts with a Porsche Taycan.
