Two area companies named finalists in national “Dream Big Awards” competition
Two Knoxville area companies are among 27 finalists for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s latest “Dream Big Awards” competition. The annual program recognizes companies in nine categories and fortunately the two local finalists are competing in different groups.
- Boston Government Services (BGS), spotlighted in this May 2020 teknovation.biz article, is one of three finalists in the “Minority-Owned Business Achievement Award” category. Founded by Harry Boston, BGS is a major government services contractor with a specific focus on the U.S. Department of Energy. The company has made Inc. Magazine’s list of the country’s 5000 fastest growing enterprises the past two years. In the most recent list, BGS reported a 350 percent increase in three-year revenues and was ranked #1359.
- The Trust Company of Tennessee is a finalist in the “Woman-Owned Business Achievement Award” category. Founded by Sharon Pryse, the firm offers wealth management, corporate retirement, personal trust, and business advisory services.
The other categories recognize the excellence of leading businesses in community support and leadership, emerging, green/sustainable, LGBTQ-owned, veteran-owned, young entrepreneur, and small business of the year.
As described in this announcement from the U.S. Chamber, the 27 finalists were selected from more than 1,000 applications and range from a yarn store in Minnesota to a wine boutique in Boston, and from a self-driving truck technology company in San Francisco to an award-winning steak house in Washington, DC.
Award winners will be announced at the Dream Big Awards Ceremony that is part of “The Big Week for Small Business” virtual event set for 5 p.m. EDT on October 21.
