Toyota rebrands venture arm, splits it into two components
Toyota has rebranded its venture arm and infused it with another $300 million. Formerly known as Toyota AI Ventures, the global automotive giant has dropped the AI from the name.
In addition, the company has beefed-up the four-year old investment arm with the addition of the $150 million Frontier Fund and the $150 million Climate Fund. The former will continue to invest in areas like artificial intelligence, automated vehicles, cloud computing and robotics, while also expanding into include smart cities, digital health, fintech, and materials and energy. The Climate Fund will be focused on technologies and companies working on accelerating carbon dioxide reduction.
