London, KY and Oak Ridge, TN — Meritus Ventures announced today that the venture capital firm will be featured in an upcoming episode of Business Update on the Discovery Channel .
Meritus Ventures is the premier venture capital firm for the Appalachian region of the United States. With portfolio companies ranging in industry from technology to healthcare to manufacturing in rural and agricultural areas, and investors ranging from financial institutions to university stakeholders, Meritus Ventures is led by fund managers Ray Moncrief and Grady Vanderhoofven, who together have more than 50 years of experience in helping small businesses.
“Venture capital and rural business are two fields that the public doesn’t often associate as having a direct correlation,” said Ed Preininger, producer for the series. “I look forward to educating the public on an exciting firm that is impacting positive change in one of the largest demographics of our society – rural.”
This particular episode will focus on the social and economic impact of venture capital in the United States. From upstart technology firms to innovative products and services, venture capital is helping American business boom and reshaping the landscape of rural America.

We have a successful track record of investing in rural Appalachia that spans more than thirty years, providing much needed capital to small businesses through Meritus Ventures and its affiliates. We’re very glad to have the opportunity to tell others about our mission through Business Update,” said fund manager, Ray Moncrief.
In this segment, Business Update viewers will be taken behind the scenes of one of the premier venture capital firms in the U.S., Meritus Ventures, with offices in Kentucky and Tennessee, and Discovery Channel audiences nationwide will gain an in-depth look at how innovative thinking can lead to positive change in business.
