Milken Institute’s latest “Best-Performing Cities” report mostly positive for Tennessee
The Milken Institute has just released its annual “Best-Performing Cities” index for 2018. It was mostly positive news for Tennessee with four of five areas in the large cities category moving up. Only Nashville, which ranked eighth in 2017, showed a decline, down to 25th. How did the other major metropolitan areas rank?
- Chattanooga moved up the most, jumping from 77th in 2017 to 65th in 2018;
- Knoxville moved five spots from number 127 to number 122;
- Memphis went from 148th to 145th; and
- Kingsport-Bristol (Johnson City is separately ranked in another category) moved from 195 to 186.
In the small cities category, Jackson moved up five spots to 85th while Johnson City dropped 14 spots from 118 to 132.
