KEC, Scripps Networks partner on “The Works” accelerator
Two major announcements were made yesterday involving Knoxville’s entrepreneurial community. Collectively, they represent a major step forward in advancing the local ecosystem.
- The Knoxville Entrepreneur Center (KEC) and Scripps Networks Interactive announced a partnership to launch “The Works,” an accelerator that merges two previous KEC start-up initiatives – “MediaWorks” and “CodeWorks.” The overall goal is to further draw national attention to Knoxville’s burgeoning digital media and content creation cluster while also capitalizing on a growing software development community. As part of its commitment, Scripps Networks will take an equity interest in the four start-ups selected to participate in the media/content track. You can read more about the overall plan and Scripps Network’s involvement in the KEC news release (KEC-Scripps Partnership).
- Separately, Angel Capital Group announced a complementary effort to raise a dedicated fund to support entrepreneurs participating in the coding cohort of “The Works” accelerator. To learn more about those plans, read the story that follows in today’s edition or click here.
