New York State wins latest manufacturing innovation hub
Press reports out of New York say that the federal government’s next big manufacturing innovation hub is slated for Rochester. Last October, President Barack Obama announced that the Department of Defense (DoD) would take the lead in the creation of an Integrated Photonics Institute for Manufacturing Innovation, committing $110 million to the project.
The Research Foundation for the State University of New York lead the consortium that also secured $250 million from the state and another $250 million from private sector partners. The announcement is scheduled for Monday.
A consortium led by the University of Tennessee, with strong support from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, won the advanced composites hub earlier this year.
