Technology transfer is a tough business, and it is challenging to consistently satisfy all expectations. If you doubt that reality, just look at the recent news coming out of the University of Washington (UW). On the positive side, the institution reported 18 new start-ups for the year, eclipsing the previous year’s total of 17. The latter reportedly ranked UW in the nation’s elite, so you would assume that the latest total would keep the university in the top echelon. Yet, a Presidential advisory group says changes are still needed to achieve the “entrepreneurial ecosystem” that university and technology business leaders want. So, the top commercialization administrator is stepping down.
