UTK research awards in first quarter up five percent
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s (UTK) Office of Research and Engagement recently reported that awards for sponsored programs grew to $50.9 million in the first quarter of FY14, an increase of five percent compared to the same period in FY13.
The number of individual awards rose 13 percent to 415, and the amount of money expended on sponsored programs grew three percent to $38.4 million.
The largest award during the period – $18.6 million – came from the National Science Foundation to the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS). Louis Gross, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, is the Principal Investigator on the project.
UTK’s Institute for Nuclear Security won $6 million from the U.S. Department of Energy for the Radiochemistry Center of Excellence. Howard Hall, Professor of Nuclear Engineering, is the Principal Investigator.
