General Fusion raises $130 million for its ambitious clean energy technology
General Fusion, which announced less than a month ago that the U.S. base of operations for the Canadian would be in Oak Ridge (see teknovation.biz article here), followed that with an announcement earlier this week that it has raised $130 million in funding to develop its ambitious clean energy technology.
The funding will help General Fusion further develop the technology at its new Vancouver headquarters, build its power plant scale Fusion Demonstration Plant near London, and conduct research at its newly opened facility adjacent to Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos is a longtime backer of General Fusion and Bezos Expeditions, his venture capital arm, participated in the round.
Just a day after that announcement came one from Massachusetts-based Commonwealth Fusion Systems saying it had raised $1.8 billion in funding. Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates is one of the investors.
